Tuition

Specialist support at every stage.

Tuition is tailored to the student, from strengthening core mathematical knowledge to preparing for the most demanding university admissions assessments.

01

TMUA preparation

Develop speed, precision and mathematical fluency through carefully selected multiple-choice problems, targeted feedback and exam technique informed by direct experience reviewing and vetting TMUA and ESAT questions.

Admissions test preparation View TMUA preparation
02

STEP preparation

Learn how to approach unfamiliar problems, structure complete mathematical arguments and communicate solutions clearly. Preparation is informed by direct experience of examining STEP scripts.

Examiner-led tuition View STEP preparation
03

Cambridge maths interviews

Realistic mock interviews followed by detailed feedback, discussion and tailored exercises. Sessions develop both mathematical problem solving and the ability to explain ideas clearly while thinking aloud.

04

A Level and Further Mathematics

Individual support for students working towards their target grades, as well as students who want to move beyond the school syllabus and develop stronger mathematical intuition and problem-solving skills.

“Students become stronger problem solvers by encountering many different types of problem, receiving carefully judged hints and understanding exactly what makes each problem challenging.”

Teaching approach

Guidance without giving the problem away.

My aim is not simply to demonstrate solutions. Students are encouraged to explore problems independently, persist when an approach does not immediately work and develop a toolkit that allows them to become unstuck.

For admissions tests, problem solving and interviews, students are normally given carefully selected material to work on before and after sessions. Their attempts provide the starting point for discussion, allowing lessons to focus on the ideas and decisions that matter most.

1
Independent preparation
Students attempt carefully chosen problems before sessions.
2
Purposeful hints
Guidance is designed to restart productive thinking without removing the challenge.
3
Reflection and consolidation
Follow-up work helps students recognise transferable methods and use them independently.
Relevant experience

Experience across teaching, examining and admissions.

Advice is informed by direct involvement in the assessments and admissions processes for which students are preparing.

STEP examination

Direct experience assessing STEP solutions and understanding how clarity, accuracy and mathematical reasoning are rewarded.

TMUA and ESAT

Former Pearson VUE Assessment Associate involved in reviewing and vetting questions for both assessments.

Cambridge admissions

Former interviewer at Homerton College, University of Cambridge, with experience contributing to admissions decisions.

Cambridge mathematics

Mathematics graduate of Murray Edwards College with first-hand experience of the complete Cambridge application process.

STEP Summer School

Director of the She Talks Science STEP Summer School at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge.

University teaching

Experience teaching undergraduate mathematics at Bristol and supervising Fluid Dynamics II at Cambridge.

Student feedback

Support that develops independent mathematicians.

Teaching was very good. Some questions were quite difficult, but Arij was very good at explaining things.
STEP Summer School student
The questions were difficult, but Arij helped me work through them so I could maintain a level of independent learning.
STEP student
Thank you for all of your help with the STEP preparation. Every lesson was extremely useful, and I am very grateful for all the work you put in outside of just the lessons, marking my work as well as giving me lots of guidance throughout.

Online and international

Specialist tuition wherever you are studying.

Sessions are delivered online, allowing students in the UK, China and elsewhere to access the same specialist support. Materials can be shared before and after lessons to support structured independent preparation.

Enquiries

Discuss the support your student needs.

A consultation call or video chat is available at no charge. This provides an opportunity to discuss the student's goals, current preparation and the most suitable form of tuition.
